Summer Vehicle Maintenance Tips: Elysian Auto Service

Vehicle Maintenance Tips: Summer

The season to hit the open road is nearly upon us! Whether you are heading up north to the cabin for the weekend or loading up the family to take that big cross-country vacation. You need to be prepared, and so does your vehicle. Elysian Auto Service has a couple of tips and reminders to make your travels safer and give you peace of mind. Most of these things just take a few minutes but that does not mean they are not important so let us begin.

The first item on the agenda is your tires, check them for low tread, abnormal wear like less tread on the inside or outside of the tire, or incorrect inflation. We know most are not tire experts, but if it looks bad or odd you most likely have a problem. As far as inflation is concerned, on the inside door frame of the driver's side is a sticker with the correct inflation. Be sure to check your spare tire as well!

Secondly, how are the fluids? You have coolant, transmission, brake, and power steering fluid that protect many components. If you don’t know where the reservoirs are that’s okay, we check them with each visit. It is still a good idea to pop the hood and see if you have any leaks, you may not know where they are coming from but it will alert the technician next time they see your vehicle.

Third, check your windshield wipers and fluid. Are they streaky, or maybe even torn? Are you low on washer fluid? Now that the snow has stopped falling, and rain has started to, make sure you have working windshield wipers.

Lastly, have someone sit in the vehicle and operate the lights. Do your high and low beams work? Do all of your brake lights work? Don’t forget to check your blinkers!

Elysian Auto Service encourages you to make an appointment at least a week in advance of your departure date, that way if something does need attention you have time for the repair without getting in the way of your travels. Each vehicle gets our 42-point digital inspection which covers all of these areas and more because we want you and your family to be safe.  Have a great time on the road this summer.
