Q:  WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE SPECIES OF FISH TO CATCH AND WHY?

I most enjoy fishing for Muskie. It is all about the thrill and the excitement of the hunt. When muskie fishing you truly have an opportunity to catch the biggest fish in the lake on any cast. It is just like deer hunting for that big buck. Even if you don’t catch the fish just seeing the giants come up to the boat to tease you can be a reward in itself.

Q: WHEN DID YOU START WITH BG MINNESOTA?

I started working for BG Minnesota just shy of 4 years ago.

Q: WHAT INTERESTED YOU IN BG MINNESOTA?

BG is a company that truly focuses on the quality of their products along with the customer service. BG puts all of its profits back into the company for R&D to make sure we stay up to date and continually have the best quality product available. The main goal for BG is to problem solve and be able to perform services on vehicles that others say cannot be done. As well as being able to clean deposits that other companies say cannot be cleaned specifically oil and fuel deposits. BG believes so much in the quality of its products it has a lifetime protection plan which is basically a warranty that a customer automatically gets just for doing the recommendation maintenance on their vehicle. The coverage continues forever and can be transferred so long as the customer doesn’t miss a service interval.  

Q:   DO YOU REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME YOU USED BG PRODUCTS? IF SO WHAT WAS THE BG PRODUCT? 

The first time that I was introduced to BG products was when I was running an auto repair shop. The BG Minnesota rep at the time approached me asking me to do a demo and I politely told them we had a different vendor and that chemical didn’t matter anyway. He persisted, finally he got his demo on my own vehicle it was a 329k mile 2004 Pontiac Vibe. While I don’t remember the numbers from the Demo specifically they were amazing. I do remember that the compression on all 4 cylinders were near 100 and they were up to 198 after using the EPR which is oil cleaner for you engine. I also gained roughly 3MPG and the car had way more pep than it previously had. I ended up keeping the car till almost 450k miles.

Q:  WHAT'S YOUR PERSONAL TOP 3 PRODUCTS FROM BG MINNESOTA AND BENEFIT TO AUTO REPAIR CUSTOMERS?

The engine service, transmission service, and brake service would be my most popular.

The engine includes cleaning the the oil system and fuel system. Modern engines due to emissions standards handed down by the government require the exhaust and crankcase vapors to get pumped back through the engine to clean them up before going into the atmosphere. This creates lots of buildup and deposits that need to and can only be cleaned by performing a fuel service. Your engine oil is required to keep your engine functioning and cool so keeping it clean can benefit fuel economy and performance.

Nearly all newer transmissions have a temperature control device on them. This is again in an attempt by auto manufacture to adhere to emission and fuel economy requirements to get the vehicle up to operating temperatures quicker. The HUGE negative is that heat kills. The fluid is kept around 200 degrees while at operating temperatures, the bad is that it is very hard of the fluid while getting there. Because of this the fluid breaks down far more quickly than most people think and manufactures want you to believe.

The brake fluid service has always been important but has become far more commonplace in the last 10 years with the introduction of adaptive breaking and adaptive cruise control. Not to mention vehicles parking themselves and keeping in their own lane hands free. These safety feature all rely on the brake system to function properly. This requires the fluid to be at optimum condition if the fluid breaks down, and if these systems cannot function it could cause an accident. As for vehicles without these features the same applies with good fluid in your brake system your pedal will be firmer and your stopping distance can often times decrease. The Dot recommends a brake fluid exchange every 2 years.

Q:  WHAT'S THE BEST PART ABOUT BEING BG MINNESOTA TERRITORY MANAGER?

The best part is the confidence that I have when I deal with my customers. I have a huge network of people working to support me and my efforts every day. If I have a problem there is a list of people I can call to help get anything resolved. Dealing with my auto repair customers however, is likely the most rewarding. My favorite part is when I get to hear about a customer that came back to an auto repair shop to thank them for a service that was performed because the vehicle is performing so much better.

Q: IF YOU COULD GIVE ONE BIT OF ADVICE TO AUTO REPAIR CUSTOMERS, WHAT WOULD IT BE? 

Maintaining customers vehicles is the most effective way to keep your customers happy. They can plan and budget to spend $150 on this or $250 on that. What they cannot budget for is an unexpected auto repair. No customer ever wants to have to fix broken or failed components, they would much rather pay to maintain their vehicle. Even if they say no, customers that maintain their vehicles are happier because it was at their convenience verse an emergency repair.
