Coffee with Charlie from Amsoil
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COFFEE?
A: Folgers “good to the last drop”
with cream and honey. I am not a true coffee connoisseur
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO GET
COFFEE?
A: I would have to say at home, on
the front porch. Several friends come every Saturday. We have been having
coffee together since 1978 two people usually show up 5:30 a.m. and the rest
arrive between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. We have coffee, rolls and conversation
(BS) until around 8:00 a.m. usually about 8 guys show up from Cleveland, Kasota
and St Peter. This time of year there is less because the snowbirds are gone
but the group pretty much remains the same..we have lost and added a couple
along the way.
Q: WHEN DID YOU START AT AMSOIL?
A: I was introduced to Amsoil in 1976
but I did not sign up as a dealer until 1977. A farmer from Nicollet brought
Amsoil to the garage where I worked to put in his vehicle, I asked him about
the benefits, but he did not know much about it. A mechanic I worked with by
the name of Gary had an article about synthetic lubricants and synthetics at
the time had a bad reputation among car repair shops. Union carbide had
developed synthetic oil with a glycol base. If you added a different brand of
oil with a different base stock it would turn to gel, causing lots of problems.
Amsoil is true synthetic oil a chemical reaction between fatty acid and alcohol
to form a new compound that does a specific job. It out performs any petroleum
product and lasts at least 8 times longer. Amsoils first product AMO 10W40 had
a 1 year or 25,000 mile warranty whichever came first. This product is still
available today! All of the other oil companies have tried to duplicate….to no
avail.
Q: WHAT INTERESTED YOU IN AMSOIL?
A: What really interested me was the
longer drain interval, better fuel mileage, cleaner running engines and fewer
emissions. Amsoil was the first synthetic manufacturer in the US to meet the
API SAE-10W40 specs. Now almost every petroleum oil company has so called
synthetic oil, the same ones that rejected Amsoil when it was first introduced.
There are still some skeptics that prefer older technology of petroleum oil,
but the times are changing with the new car specifications recommending
synthetic oil.
Q: DO YOU REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME YOU
USED AN AMSOIL PRODUCT?
A: Yes, I put it in a 1970 GMC Pickup
with a 350 V8 engine. I used the first Amsoil product to meet the API SAE USA
standard. I still use that same oil in all 3 of my classic cars.

A: My top selling oils are the
signature series 12,000/1 year 0W30 and 5W30. The PI performance improves,
injector cleaner for gasoline engines, and the diesel injector cleaner are also
popular. The auto/truck repair shops can tell the customer with confidence that
they will have a smoother, quieter performance and better fuel mileage with
less vehicle repair bills.
A: Getting feedback from the repair
shops about customers that come back for repeat business and hearing about how
much better their vehicle sounds and runs with Amsoil products. Another is all
of the friendships that I have made over the years.
Q: IF YOU COULD GIVE ONE BIT OF
ADVICE TO AUTO REPAIR CUSTOMERS WHAT WOULD IT BE?
A: Vehicle maintenance is very
important, by using the Amsoil lubricants and fuel additives for the entire
vehicle you can be assured that your customer will be happy with the service
they receive and will tell others about your service.
Q: ANY CLOSING STATEMENTS?
A: It has been a pleasure working with Carl, Sue
and the staff.
